7 former employees of Nigerian Airways die in one week as dem dey wait for pension



Na like seven former workers of Nigeria Airways die for the last one week as dem dey wait for their severance package from the federal government.




Chairman, Elders Forum of the defunct Nigeria Airways, Mr Godwin Jobodu yan say the pensioners die inside serious poverty even though dem serve the nation well.

He mention their names as  Capt. Asuquo, Capt. Akintaju, Capt. Tunde Akinyosade, Capt. Sam Ohioma, and Mr. K. C.  Amah while Mr. T. Bellgam and Mr. Ebenezer Akinbode say all of them die of stroke.

As he take talk, one of the ex-workers, Capt. Charles Ntanyi don dey miss since August after he enter one commercial bus for night for Ogba area of Lagos State. The federal government don earlier this year approve N45bn for the payment of gratuities and other benefits of former employees of defunct airlines, out of N78bn wey dem owe the workers.

But several weeks after the approval, the ex-workers still dey wait.

“we have lost seven colleagues within the last one week because they could not afford proper treatment for their ailments. This is very sad because the government has approved N45bn since June for the payment of our pensions and gratuities. We are appealing to Nigeria as a nation not to forget the contributions of the (defunct) Nigeria Airways to national development. Nigeria Airways till date has helped in building the capacity of workers in the aviation sector.”  he yan.
