Senate Committee on Ethics instructs EFCC to unfreeze Patience Jonathan accounts




Yesterday, the senate committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions don instruct Stanbic IBTC Bank and Zenith Bank make dem unfreeze two accounts wey dem link to the former first lady, Patience Jonathan.





Members of the panel turn by turn condemn the Economic Financial Crimes Commission for the freezing wey the bank freeze the accounts when court order don vacate the freezing order kon fault the EFCC make dem notify banks ontop the court judgement but dem allegedly refuse to write the banks when dem don vacate the freezing order but later dem serve dem with notice of appeal.

Patience don petition the Senate through her lawyer, Charles Ogboli (SAN) dey protest against the freezing of her accounts for seven different banks without court orders. Several members of the committee query the powers of the EFCC to serve court orders on banks when the anti-graft agency no dey part of the judiciary.

As dem take talk, the banks dey afraid of EFCC say na wetin dey make dem dey flag the accounts ontop the letter wey dem give them.

The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Sam Anyanwu,  kon blame the process say the court bailiff suppose be the one to serve the court order and the bank suppose sign am. He say but he be like say the bank dey take advantage say the money dey with the banks and e be like say dem dey trade with am.
